Mario Del Rosario has left us to start his own group at Åbo Akademi University in Turku, Finland, working in Cell Biology and in the InFLAMES Research Flagship Centre. His group is funded through the IMMENS Centre of Excellence and the Research Council of Finland.
Mario joined the lab in December 2020 and stayed five years, funded first by a Gulbenkian fellowship and then by our ERC Consolidator grant SelfDriving4DSR. He worked on expansion microscopy, quantitative live-cell imaging and bioimage analysis, and led PhotoFiTT, our framework for measuring phototoxicity in live-cell experiments. He also co-supervised our Masters student Carolina Prieto Wahnon de Morais, and in 2025 shared ITQB NOVA's Early Career Researcher Award.
We will see plenty of him. Ricardo holds a Visiting Professorship at InFLAMES, and our long-time collaborator Guillaume Jacquemet is at the same university.
Congratulations, Mario.
